How much light does a nano planted tank need?
Low-light plants like mosses, Anubias and crypts thrive on modest output, while carpeting plants need high PAR. A rough guide is around 1 watt of quality LED per litre for medium light, but PAR at substrate matters more than watts — so check the light's rated depth against your tank.
Will more light give me more plant growth?
Only up to a point, and only if the other inputs keep pace. More light without matching CO2 and fertiliser doesn't grow better plants — it grows algae, because the plants can't use the extra light and algae will. On a nano, start dim and short, then raise intensity slowly as the tank matures.
Do nano lights come with a timer?
Some do. The Chihiros WRGB II and Hygger models include app or built-in scheduling with ramp-up and dimming, which is ideal for a consistent photoperiod. If your light has no timer, add a simple plug timer — a fixed 6–8 hour photoperiod is one of the best defences against algae.
