The whole unit — housing, feet and diaphragm shell — is sheathed in rubber to absorb vibration before it reaches the shelf, which is exactly where cheaper pumps leak their buzz. The result is one of the calmest mains air pumps on the market. If your tank shares a room with a bed, a desk or a sofa, this is the pump that stops you unplugging it in frustration after a week.
A complete kit, not just a box with a motor
The 200 is unusual in that it arrives ready to run: two diffusers on suction cups, about two metres of airline, and — crucially — two check valves. Those valves are the part beginners most often skip and most often regret, because without one a power cut can siphon tank water straight back into the pump. Is the Eheim Air Pump 200 really the quiet one?
It is among the quietest mains air pumps you can buy. Eheim wraps the housing, feet and diaphragm shell in rubber to kill the vibration that makes pumps buzz, so on a soft surface it fades into the background. No air pump is truly silent — the bubbles themselves make noise at the surface — but for the pump body itself this is about as good as it gets short of going battery or piston.
What is included in the box?
Unlike most pumps, the 200 is sold as a kit: the pump, two air diffusers on suction cups, around two metres of airline and two check valves. That means you can set up two air stones straight away without a separate accessories order — the check valves in particular are essential for stopping back-siphon.
