Eheim Air Pump 200 twin-outlet aquarium air pump for tanks up to 60 gallons
EHEIM · 2 outlets · up to 300 L / 60 gal · very quiet

Air Pump 200 Review

Eheim's take on the air pump: a rubber-sheathed twin-outlet unit engineered to be near-silent, and sold as a complete kit with diffusers, airline and check valves. The one to buy if noise is the deal-breaker.

👍 Pros

  • Genuinely one of the quietest mains pumps — rubberised shell, feet and diaphragm damp vibration
  • Two adjustable outlets (200 L/h total, 2×100) let you feed two tanks or two air stones
  • Comes complete: 2 diffusers, 2 m of airline and 2 check valves in the box
  • Eheim build quality — the brand's reputation for long-lived, serviceable gear applies here too

👎 Cons

  • Noticeably pricier than a Tetra or generic pump of similar output
  • 200 L/h is aimed at tanks up to ~60 gal; not the pump for a 600 L system
  • Availability is patchier than the mainstream brands in some markets

Built around one goal: quiet

Where most pumps treat low noise as a bonus, the Eheim Air Pump 200 is engineered around it. The whole unit — housing, feet and diaphragm shell — is sheathed in rubber to absorb vibration before it reaches the shelf, which is exactly where cheaper pumps leak their buzz. The result is one of the calmest mains air pumps on the market. If your tank shares a room with a bed, a desk or a sofa, this is the pump that stops you unplugging it in frustration after a week.

A complete kit, not just a box with a motor

The 200 is unusual in that it arrives ready to run: two diffusers on suction cups, about two metres of airline, and — crucially — two check valves. Those valves are the part beginners most often skip and most often regret, because without one a power cut can siphon tank water straight back into the pump. Having a pair in the box, plus two adjustable outlets pushing 200 L/h between them, means you can aerate two tanks or drive two sponge filters from the moment you open it.

Is it worth the premium?

Yes, if quiet is your priority; less so if you just need air on a budget. For a cheaper, still-quiet single-outlet pump on one mid tank, the Tetra Whisper 40 does the job. Need to feed a much larger or deeper system? The stronger Fluval A402 has the output the 200 lacks. Compare all of them on our air pumps hub, see how a pump drives a sponge filter, and size the whole rig on our aquariums page.

⚖️ The bottom line

The pump to buy when silence is the priority. It costs more than the mainstream options, but the near-inaudible motor and complete kit-in-a-box make it the easy pick for a tank you sit next to every evening.

Air Pump 200 — frequently asked questions

Is the Eheim Air Pump 200 really the quiet one?

It is among the quietest mains air pumps you can buy. Eheim wraps the housing, feet and diaphragm shell in rubber to kill the vibration that makes pumps buzz, so on a soft surface it fades into the background. No air pump is truly silent — the bubbles themselves make noise at the surface — but for the pump body itself this is about as good as it gets short of going battery or piston.

What is included in the box?

Unlike most pumps, the 200 is sold as a kit: the pump, two air diffusers on suction cups, around two metres of airline and two check valves. That means you can set up two air stones straight away without a separate accessories order — the check valves in particular are essential for stopping back-siphon.

What tank size is it for?

Eheim rates the 200 for aquariums up to roughly 60 gallons (≈ 300 L), with 200 L/h split across two 100 L/h outlets. Buy a size up rather than running it flat out — a pump loafing along stays quieter and lasts longer than one straining at maximum.
